In short, the smoother the surface the more “shiny” or reflective it becomes as the light is reflected back in a straight line. The reflected image clarity is dependant on how many processes are used, for example a super mirror polish on stainless steel would normally include 4 abrasive stages followed by another 4 buffing stages.

You can use different varieties of abrasives for metal polishing. It depends on the condition of the material you choose. In the case of unfinished material, the process of polishing consists of a number of stages. By using a rougher abrasive, the imperfections from the material are removed. Once all the impurities are removed, a finer abrasive is used for the other stages so that there are no marks on the material.
Our metal polishers then use their experience to select a suitable combination of buffing compounds that are applied with wheels and high-speed polishers that enable us to give the material a mirror-like finish.
